An executive conversation

AI, Web3 and the Cucinelli business.

During my time as Slack Technology Evangelist, I joined a special meeting with Brunello Cucinelli at the Cucinelli Theatre in Solomeo. We discussed the impact of AI and Web3 on the Cucinelli business.

This was part of my customer-facing technology work: bringing emerging technologies into a conversation about a particular business.

[01] Context

The setting

Leading executive programmes at Slack

Before the operational integration in April 2022, I led Slack’s EMEA executive programmes team and served as its executive voice in the region, bringing technology and business priorities into conversations with senior customers.

Slack expertise within Salesforce

As the teams came together in April 2022, I became a Slack subject-matter expert within the Salesforce Innovation Centre EMEA team.

[02] Challenge

The question behind the work

Useful executive engagement starts with the organisation’s priorities. It requires understanding the business problem, translating the technology and creating space for a substantive conversation.

[03] Contribution

What I did

  • Built and relaunched the EMEA executive-programme strategy around regional priorities.
  • Facilitated advisory discussions with C-suite customers about their transformation goals.
  • Partnered with leadership, product, marketing and account teams on customer engagement.
  • Contributed to industry conversations through speaking, panels and technology evangelism.

Business contribution

Building a team with commercial influence.

I built an executive-programmes team from scratch that influenced $25.9m in annual contract value (ACV), achieving 129% of target.

Alongside executive customer engagements, I chaired Customer Advisory Boards and brought customer feedback into Product Management and Engineering to help shape future product direction.

“I was constantly amazed by his technical knowledge and ability to translate that into real impact/ROI for customers and the C-suite. He is a true expert and knew how to connect with customers on an unmatched level I haven't seen in my career before. He led an international team that delivered unique executive engagement experiences at custom EBRs and Slack/Salesforce conferences (Dreamforce).”

I was constantly amazed by his technical knowledge and ability to translate that into real impact/ROI for customers and the C-suite. He is a true expert and knew how to connect with customers on an unmatched level I haven't seen in my career before. He led an international team that delivered unique executive engagement experiences at custom EBRs and Slack/Salesforce conferences (Dreamforce). Any company would be truly lucky to have Karl on their team as he will up-level your future team with his management, executive engagement, and creative problem solving approaches.
